David Carr Glover Piano Library
(. Primer Level)
David Carr Glover & Louise Garrow - Alfred Music Publishing
David Carr Glover Piano Library
This piano method is David Carr Glover's first, published in 1967 with author Louise Garrow. It provides a gradual approach to learning to play the piano, with plenty of time and attention taken to develop the student at the intermediate level. The entire method includes instruction and related pieces in the form of folk songs, arrangements of popular classics, and originals by the authors. Many of the pieces are supported by teacher accompaniments. The Primer Level begins with a brief orientation to the black keys and a couple of tunes using simple, pre-staff notation. It launches quickly into reading from the grand staff, one hand and one note at a time in middle C position. Slowly, harmony notes are added, at first as repeated notes. Sharps are introduced to prepare the student to play tunes in G Major, still in middle C position however. The student plays F major in middle C position as well. Later, the student is required to shift the right hand thumb to middle D. At the end of the Primer Level, the student shifts to C major position and is playing tunes at the elementary level.
