Cherokee
Cherokee was the first big hit for Charlie Barnet and his orchestra, although when Billy May arrived for the 1939 recording session and handed out the parts, nobody seemed that impressed with it! This is a good tenor feature, and a straight-forward chart to play. The arrangement is full of interest with glissing trombones, trumpets in wah-wah plungers, and some rich voicings in the saxes and ensemble sections. This chart is the one that set the standard for all subsequent arrangements of this Ray Noble composition. There are no saxophone doubles.
