Castle Call
Publisher Desc.
When composing Castle Call, I imagined long herald trumpets standing on a castle wall and playing the initial "call" (supported by alto saxophones and oboes). The rest of the instruments provide the "echo" as bits of that theme echo through the valley below. The addition of percussion during the second theme statement adds drama. The "B" section is quiet and somber, as though tragedy has struck the kingdom, but the return of the drums leads back to the original heroic theme. Most parts can be performed with a 6-note range with more notes required of clarinets and various optional advanced parts.
