Captain Hooked
Publisher Desc.
Perfect for first- or second-year students working on the hooked bowing! The primary rhythmic motif, which includes two consecutive 'up' bows (down, up-up, down, up) appears throughout the piece. In the middle the motif changes (down, up, down-down, up) allowing students to practice the hooked bowing in both directions. The piece is written in E Dorian, giving students a chance to play in a different mode without having to learn any new notes. The darker harmony and driving rhythms create a mood that is intense and heroic. I think young players will really get into Captain Hooked! - All parts can be played entirely in first position (optional shifting in bass part) - No extensions or high 3 fingerings. Low 2 in 1st violin part only - Mostly unison rhythms (eighth, quarter, and half notes). No syncopation. - Slurs only in 1st violin solo - Mostly stepwise motion
