Aschkenaz
A cappella
Based on Yiddish songs from the Central and Eastern European Jewish tradition, these six settings are equally traditional and modern, employing Western and Eastern harmonic devices as well as harmonic ideas taken from jazz. Arranged for unaccompanied four-part mixed choir with optional percussion, these arrangements are intended to be in line with longstanding Jewish traditions of intercultural experiences. Composer Alon Wallah draws on his heritage and experience to create these stylized settings for Asamblea Mediterranea, an ensemble specialized in the music of the Sephardic Jews, for whom he serves as arranger and musical director.
