125th and 7th Avenue
Part of the "Jazzhattan Suite," this composition by Oliver Nelson was recorded by the "Jazz Interactions Orchestra" in 1967, an ensemble led by pianist Billy Taylor. Set in a catchy, medium rock-shuffle groove, it features solos for alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet and trombone, and can easily be opened up for more solos. There are no woodwind doubles. Instrumentation: AATTB Saxes, 4 Trumpets, 2 Horns in F, 4 Trombones, 1 Tuba, Piano, Bass, Drums and Tambourine. Ranges: Trumpet 1 to F6 and Trombone 1 to G#4.
