Brandenburg Concerto No. 3
The six Brandenburg Concertos are among the most familiar of Bach's works. Among the six, the third is a wondrous experience for performers and audience, with its fascinating use of instrumental groupings, and passages being shared back and forth in a light allegro moderato tempo. Melanie Thorne has taken the original string instrumentation and created a faithful arrangement for eight clarinets or eight saxophones. Both sets include all parts, including two alternates. The clarinet octet is scored for E-flat clarinet, six B-flat clarinets, alto clarinet and two bass clarinets. A second alto clarinet part is included as a substitute for B-flat clarinet 6 and a B-flat clarinet 1 part is included as a substitute for clarinet in E-flat. The saxophone octet is scored for an SSAATTBB ensemble.
