Extracted from the larger work Appalachian Stories, this second movement is a beautiful English folk ballad lost in its native land but preserved in Appalachia's oral tradition. A bluegrass fiddle part provides connective material throughout, but the otherwise a cappella texture employs the open, transparent harmonies indicative of the style.
